Straight flush
Flushing hydrogen Multi-Element Gas Containers (MEGCs) is the controlled process of purging the nitrogen left inside cylinders following manufacture.

This is accomplished through repeated pressure cycles, alternately reducing and rebuilding the internal pressure - which gradually dilutes the residual nitrogen and replaces it with high-purity hydrogen. The goal is to reach a hydrogen purity of at least 99.97%, ensuring the MEGC is fit for hydrogen applications without risking damage to sensitive downstream equipment.
When the internal temperature of an MEGC exceeds 25°C, the cylinder pressure can be brought down from 20 bar(g) to near atmospheric levels. This unlocks a shift from conventional cold-flushing to hot-flushing, a method that operates across far narrower pressure intervals. The impact on hydrogen consumption is substantial - hot-flushing can reduce it by as much as 90%, translating directly into a dramatic reduction in cost per container flushed.
The trade-off is complexity. Hot-flushing demands rigorous control and continuous monitoring at every stage: the ambient conditions surrounding the MEGC, the internal temperature of the Type IV cylinders, and the temperature of the hydrogen being introduced must all consistently remain above 25°C.
Across the Nordic region and much of Northern and Central Europe, outdoor temperatures only meet this threshold during a narrow window in the summer months. For the rest of the year, hot-flushing requires access to certified, ATEX-compliant indoor facilities - and right now, very few such facilities exist that can perform this process to the standard DRIV hydrogen has established.
This gap in the market has led us to establish a clear strategic ambition: to become a leading European provider of hot-flushing services and integrated MEGC handling solutions.
